Fear Stronger than Gravity

The Christmas Day bomb attempt has left most of the western world frustrated. How can terrorists be stopped? They are everywhere. In Pakistan blowing up just about everyone and everything; hotels to playing fields, diplomats to children. Threats now coming out of Yemen, more terrorists,  Nigeria, a young man confused maybe, but certainly looking for a cause greater than himself, more important than just “it’s all about me” believing in a God that will take revenge on all the unbelievers. These are powerful thoughts, thoughts that stir the hearts and minds of many, many men, women and children across country borders, across oceans. The western world our leaders refuse to see the bigger picture.  You can’t prevent an ideology from spreading unless you can offer something better. Hope for a better safer life here on earth, a life where children can learn and flourish, a world where God is not a vengeful God, where tolerance for different religions can exist. Instead new scanners are created to check for weapons. Scanners that do what to our bodies over the long run? Frustration prevails, we want safety. A scanner is just a tool against a symptom the terrorist, like a hooligan at a game who frightens and disrupts, like demonstrators who only want to disrupt a peaceful march, they are not the cause but a symptom.

Scanners will do what, achieve what when poverty, desperate hunger, hopelessness is eased by only one thought: martyr, die for a greater cause, for a God. Many wars have been fought in the name of God. Can airplane scanners ease suffering? Whose?

Think about it: Who wags the dog?
